In late summer 2014 we had to fell a large beech tree in Llangefni, Anglesey. It had decay in the trunk and being in an exposed position was at risk of falling on the adjacent road.
The tree had a wild bee colony nesting in it approximately 10 meters up, the bees were using a natural hole about 4 inch in diameter, we carefully felled the tree without creating too much shock for the bees, then carefully cut into the tree either side of the nest, we then brushed the bees out of the cavity into a box. They were moved about 6 miles away and rehomed in a new WBC hive where they still live today.
